Assessment. Validity. Technology.

My undergraduate background is in Psychological Counseling and Guidance, which first drew my attention to how psychological and educational constructs are measured. This interest led me to Educational Measurement and Evaluation at Hacettepe University, where I completed my master’s degree and am now a Ph.D. candidate. A question that runs through my work is how we can obtain more valid, reliable, and fair measurements of learning outcomes.

My research sits at the intersection of psychometrics and computational methods. I am interested in how machine learning and other AI-based methods can complement established psychometric approaches, particularly in gathering validity evidence. My studies so far have focused on measurement invariance and differential item functioning, computerized adaptive testing, scale adaptation, and the analysis of large-scale assessment and survey data.

I am currently a Visiting Scholar at the College of Education, University of Massachusetts Amherst, for nine months, working with Prof. Stephen G. Sireci at the Center for Educational Assessment. The visit is funded by TÜBİTAK’s 2214-A International Research Fellowship Programme for PhD Students and focuses on my doctoral dissertation.

Alongside my doctoral studies, I work as a Research Assistant at Başkent University. I am also interested in how large language models (LLMs) might be used responsibly in assessment, and in the validity and fairness questions that such uses raise.
